In November of 2003, this time as a featherweight, he stopped Marco Antonio Barrera in eleven rounds, in a fight where he was virtually dominant. Then came the great fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, for the featherweight crown, and even though he floored Marquez three times in the opening round, thrilling those who laid a price with him in the boxing odds, he let Marquez back into the fight, and in a thrilling affair, the fight was judged to be a draw. Pacquiao wasn't done moving up; he went to 130 pounds but was unsuccessful in his first attempt, being outclassed for the most part by Erik Morales. But after Pac Man beat Hector Velasquez for the WBC 130-pound title, he went on to beat Morales twice by knockout. Then he beat Barrera again, in October 2006, grabbing himself a nice payday. With all of that business taken care of, Pacquiao decided to seek a title in the lightweight division, and was shutting out David Diaz, the WBC's 135-pound champion, before stopping him in the ninth round. Miguel Angel Cotto offered more spirited resistance, but he simply didn't have the talent, and was eventually wide open for Pacquiao, who stopped him in the final round. Mayweather’s speed and strength combination is as great as the sport has ever seen. Mayweather has fought in multiple weight classes and succeeded at each. His smart style of fighting has allowed him to beat some of the best in the world. Weaknesses: Mayweather has been criticized for having relatively uneventful fights and toying with his opponents when he could finish them off. However, it’s widely believed that Margarito had been wrapping his hands illegally and hardening them with plaster of Paris for most of his career until getting caught. Since the scandal, Margarito’s power has been noticeably absent and his hand speed more or less disappeared. Margarito stands 5-feet-11-inches tall and has a reach of 73 inches. He’s boxed 297 rounds since 1994 and his current knockout percentage is 55 per cent. His losses have been at the hands of Cotto, Pacquiao, Mosley, Paul Williams, Daniel Santos, Rodney Jones, Larry Dixon and Victor Lozova. He has a hard time when he steps up in class, which is what he will be doing against Margarito. Jones is 5-feet-10-inches tall with a 72-inch reach and has pretty good power as his current knockout ratio stands at 54 per cent. He has a decent chin as well as he’s been stopped just three times in his 11 losses. Jones has been a tough opponent for everybody he’s faced and he often surprises his opponents with his speed and power. However, his main problem throughout his career has been a lack of consistency. He can ban an elite boxer one night and basically a journeyman or Grade B opponent the next time out. Prediction… Margarito has done okay since his comeback even though he’s lost some power and speed. You never know what to expect from Jones and that’s what makes this a tough prediction. Mosley’s trainer noticed something wrong with the way Margarito’s hands were wrapped and after investigating his hands it was revealed that he has a the hardening substance known as plaster of paris on them. Boxing fans immediately thought back to Margarito’s fight against Cotto and figured Cotto was on the end of the hardening substance in their bout and that’s why his face was cut, bruised, and swollen so badly in their fight. Since Margarito was caught cheating he took beatings from Mosley and was stopped in the ninth round and then Manny Pacquiao in a 12-round unanimous decision, causing many fans to accuse him of cheating in many of his bouts until he was finally caught. Margarito was suspended for a year and Cotto has promised to get his revenge on Dec. 3 rd . However, this fight was close to being called off as Margarito had to pass an eye exam due to a fractured orbital bone that he suffered from Pacquiao. He finally passed it and the bell is set to ring on Saturday night. The first fight was one of the best in recent memory and this one should be even better with all of the storylines and drama that surround it. It’s no secret that these two guys don’t like each other and that’s usually a good sign for boxing fans. The 31-year-old Cotto will enter the ring with a 36-2 record with 29 knockouts while the 33-year-old Margarito comes in at 38-7 with 27 KOs. Cotto’s other loss was a 12 th -round TKO defeat to Pacquiao in 2009. This bout will be fought at a catch weight of 153 lbs. and Margarito has a four-inch height advantage as he’s 5-11 as well as a six-inch reach advantage. Both fighters have a lot to prove here as Margarito wants to show the world that he doesn’t need hardened gloves to beat Cotto while Cotto wants to prove the opposite. Of course, if Cotto beats him in the rematch here most fans will automatically assume Margarito’s gloves were padded in their first fight. Cotto still has to be cautious though and he can’t afford to go all out as soon as the opening bell rings. He needs to take his time and box methodically while going after Margarito when the opportunity presents itself. He can’t afford to leave himself open and needs to keep his emotions in check. Margarito has shown over the years that he can take a punch as well as anybody. His only KO loss came to Mosley. Golf bet big on legalized sports gambling. It’s paying off. On the sacred, storied grounds of Augusta National this week, the Masters will be played with darker foliage, no fans and an omnipresent logo that will get plenty of TV time, further highlighting golf’s headfirst dive into the sports gambling business. Bryson DeChambeau, the tournament favorite, will sport a DraftKings logo on his cap, making him the first player to wear the betting company’s logo in a tournament and the latest sign of golf’s burgeoning relationship with gambling. Betting operators are anticipating a big week. Wagering on golf has exploded in recent months, thanks to expanded legalized betting and a pandemic-inspired spike in golf interest. At DraftKings alone, the sportsbook handle for golf has increased tenfold this year compared with last. “We saw an explosion of interest in getting content and betting on golf because it was all there was,” said Patrick Keane, chief executive at Action Network, a media company devoted to sports gaming. “There was only so much Taiwanese baseball and Russian ping-pong that people could follow.” The proliferation of golf gambling was urged on by the sport itself. When it became clear 2½ years ago that the federal law banning most forms of sports gambling would be struck down, the PGA Tour aggressively began to rethink both its business model and its rule book. While some professional sports leagues were slower to come around, tour officials knew that friendly wagers had long been part of the sport. “The idea of competing in this manner, it is inherent in the game,” said Norb Gambuzza, the PGA Tour’s senior vice president of media and gaming. “It’s not something that we hide from or are reluctant to talk about.” The tour’s plans accelerated when the sports world suddenly stopped spinning in March. Even as tour officials canceled and postponed three months’ worth of events, it became clear pro golf would resume play before other sports. The tour knew it had a short window to take advantage. In barely six weeks’ time, officials rewrote tour policy that governed gambling-related activities and partnerships. Then it struck deals with four top-tier gambling operators. The ink was barely dry when the tour resumed play in mid-June. While players are still barred from betting on golf events, the tour now provides more leeway for tournaments and players to partner with gambling companies and for networks to incorporate odds into event broadcasts. “And we did that all very deliberately because of that kind of lack of supply,” Gambuzza said. Abate, 31, was one of thousands of Michiganders to take advantage of the highly anticipated launch of online gaming and sports betting in the state. At noon Friday, 10 Michigan casinos and their platform providers went live, offering either online sports betting, online gaming, or both. By all accounts, the first few days were a huge success. “There were no real reports of any outages -- maybe some lag here and there -- but nothing overly out of the norm in that regard. And also you had a great weekend for an opening. You had the conference championship games and you had the added bonus of a high-profile UFC fight (Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor). So all in all, with the exception of maybe starting on Super Bowl Friday or the first round of the NCAA Tournament, you’re not going to get a much better opening slot.” Michigan Gaming Control Board executive director Richard Kalm said revenue and wagering numbers from the opening weekend are not yet available, but there was a high level of activity. It was a big betting weekend for the football playoffs, March Madness is coming, so there’s a lot of activity going on. You really have to look at this on a quarterly basis, spread it out a little bit more to see where Michigan is going to be and how they are going to compare to other states and what the actual revenue numbers are. You’re met with a wall of numbers, dots and dashes before you even get started. The key to enjoyable betting is in knowing how to read the odds. America’s Laws Against Gambling And Sports Betting. When discussing legal online sports betting, the majority of America's government has a very regressive, prohibition-style attitude towards it, buying into a negative perspective concerning the morality of gambling entertainment. This is what has led to a variety of state gambling laws in the past. There are no US federal laws that make it a crime for Americans to place bets at offshore sportsbooks that are operating legally within the industry. There are two states that legally prohibit all online gambling, domestic or offshore, leaving residents in Connecticut and Washington without legally sanctioned online betting options, though they have yet to start enforcing those restrictions. With the changes still being implemented, we are not sure yet how this will affect those states that had entered into interstate gambling pacts with one another, sharing player pools for their online gambling initiatives. Once that aspect of the legal situation becomes more clear we will update that information here. The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. Also known as the Bradley Act, or just PASPA, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act was a sweeping federal regulation that passed in 1992, with the supposed intent of protecting the integrity of sports by making sports betting illegal. At the time the bill was passed, there were sports lotteries in Delaware, Montana, and Oregon, as well as licensed and regulated sports betting in Nevada, so those four states were exempt. The law effectively prevented the expansion of the sports betting market throughout the United States in what many categorized as a discriminatory law that favored a few states while restricting others. New Jersey took on the mission of challenging the law and after several years of court battles, was given a favorable outcome by the highest court in the land as SCOTUS ruled PASPA as unconstitutional, nullifying the law. As of May 14, 2018, each individual state now has the authority to dictate sports betting laws within their borders. They can now choose to authorize or prohibit sports betting at their pleasure. Following PASPA's repeal, we have seen multiple states move forward with legislation that legalizes sports gambling at the state level. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. This is the big one that shook the gambling industry to its core. Online gambling really started to explode during the early 2000's, especially in the realm of online poker. In 2006, then-President Bush signed into law the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, known all over as the UIGEA. In a nutshell, the UIGEA placed very stringent regulatory restrictions concerning how gambling-related transactions could be processed. The most reputable sites started a countdown and allowed Americans to withdraw and closeout their accounts. Many trusted gambling sites left the US market at this time. After the dust settled, and the financial and gambling industries learned how to comply with the regulatory oversight provided by the UIGEA, many of these reputable gambling sites have returned to provide services to US sports bettors. The Department of Justice ruled, and accurately so, that the federal government had no right to tell states that they could not sanction online gambling and therefore established that each US state has the authority to determine their own fate concerning online gambling with the exception of sports betting. The repeal of PASPA took care of freeing sports gambling as the last remaining federally prohibited form of state-regulated online gambling. As of now, all 50 states have the legal ability to legalize and offer online gambling such as casinos, poker, bingo, and sports wagering. To date, only a handful of states have taken advantage of legal domestic online gambling. However, many states have pending bills to allow various forms of sports betting. The 2019 DOJ Interpretation of Federal Gambling Laws. Following the repeal of PASPA in 2018, the reach of the Federal Wire Act has again come into question. In a new interpretation, which many believe was coerced by anti-online gambling activist Sheldon Adelson, the Department of Justice has indicated that the Wire Act prohibits not only interstate wagers but also the sharing of information across state lines. This determination will certainly harm those states that have entered into interstate gambling compacts to share player pools and resources with other states. The opinion is being formally challenged through a lawsuit headed up by New Hampshire. As the situation unfolds, we will provide updates here. What You Need to Know Going Forward. Cuomo to initiate legal mobile sports betting in New York. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- As part of his State of the State address next week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo will call for legal sports betting -- online and on mobile devices -- in New York to help raise revenue amid the state’s $14 billion financial losses during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Under Cuomo’s proposal, the New York State Gaming Commission will issue a request for proposals to select and license a sports operator or platform to offer mobile sports wagering in New York. This operator or platform must have a partnership with one of the existing licensed commercial casinos, Cuomo said. The Commission will also require any entity operating mobile wagering apps include safeguards against abuses and addiction. In the past, Cuomo hasn’t supported legalized mobile sports betting. But facing an estimated $15 billion deficit this coming fiscal year, the governor has embraced the idea. “At a time when New York faces a historic budget deficit due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the current online sports wagering structure incentivizes a large segment of New York residents to travel out of state to make online sports wagers or continue to patronize black markets,” Cuomo said. “New York has the potential to be the largest sports wagering market in the United States, and by legalizing online sports betting we aim to keep millions of dollars in revenue here at home, which will only strengthen our ability to rebuild from the COVID-19 crisis.” The sports gambling market is evolving rapidly. In 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court in Murphy v. NCAA overturned a federal law prohibiting most states from authorizing sports wagering. Sports wagering is now legal online in 14 states, including the bordering states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, while it is only legal in New York at the four Upstate commercial gaming facilities and Native American gaming facilities. An industry study found that nearly 20 percent of New Jersey’s sports wagering revenue comes from New York residents, costing the State millions of dollars in lost tax revenue.

A few weeks into 2021, lawmakers in more than a dozen states have already introduced sports betting legislation or have announced plans to do so. Here’s a state-by-state recap of some of the most important such bills filed during a frantic start to the 2021 legislative session: Georgia. A bipartisan group of lawmakers in the state House of Representatives introduced a mobile sports betting bill last week that would allow at least six individually branded online licenses under the purview of the state lottery. Status: The bill has not been assigned yet to a committee but it is being championed by Rep. Ron Stephens, who chairs the House Economic Development & Tourism Committee. That means it should at least get a serious look. Look Ahead: Georgia came surprisingly close to passing legal sports betting last year, backed by Republican fiscal conservatives and the state’s professional sports organizations. However, any gaming bill still faces opposition from religious and social conservative organizations and lawmakers. The back-and-forth between these factions of the GOP could determine sports betting’s 2021 hopes. Connecticut. After years discussing legal sports betting, Connecticut finally seems on the verge of legal wagering legislation passing into law. Status: A bipartisan, bicameral bill with 17 sponsors — and the backing of Gov. Ned Lamont — was filed last week and now awaits further action in the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Security. Look Ahead: The bill offers few details beyond approving the state’s two gaming tribes to open retail and online sportsbooks, as well as online casinos (the state lottery would also be able to expand its offerings). Significant work is required before this bill could pass but the fact so many lawmakers are on board, as well as the tribes, gives online sports betting and casino gaming a great chance to pass, even if it looks like there may be limited wagering options. Missouri. Lawmakers have already introduced six sports betting bills, meaning the Show Me State will once again consider legal wagering, even though significant logistical and political hurdles remain. Status: Bills have been introduced in both the House and Senate but only one has been assigned to a committee. Lawmakers must consider the casino industry interests while also determining if the state should regulate thousands of unlicensed “grey” gaming machines that are already in existence, legalizing new machines or banning them outright. They also will have to do so remotely, at least for this week; the 2021 legislative session has been suspended due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Kentucky. Rep. Adam Koenig is once again spearheading mobile sports betting legislation, this time with 16 co-sponsors. But after a similar 2020 bill faltered following a promising start, this year’s legislative session leaves little wiggle room for what appears a long-shot effort. Status: This year’s bill hasn’t been taken up by a committee yet but assuming it advances as its counterpart did in 2020, the real question remains if it will get a vote before the full House floor. Look Ahead: Kentucky gaming bills always face tough odds in a state with strong anti-gambling sentiment but this year, lawmakers are more focused on restoring historic horse racing terminals — and, more so, a major budget crunch execrated by the COVID-19 pandemic. With an already truncated odd-numbered legislative session to begin with, sports betting may struggle to gain much traction in Frankfort. New York. Assemblymember J. Gary Pretlow and Sen. Joseph Addabbo have introduced identical bills in their respective chambers that would allow up to 14 online mobile operators as well as betting kiosks at professional sports stadiums and off-track betting venues. Status : Both bills could see votes in their respective gaming committees as early as this week, but that vote isn’t as important as a budget proposal expected from Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the coming days. Look Ahead: Cuomo surprised the gaming world earlier this month when he came out in support of legal online wagering but just as quickly angered stakeholders when he said he wanted only one operator. A press statement released last week indicated the governor may support a multi-operator model, but it will have to come with the backing of lawmakers already looking to advance a proposal of their own. The fate of New York online betting depends on finding an agreement on either a multiple operator or single operator model. Cuomo’s draft budget could go a long way toward that solution. South Dakota. After voters backed a 2020 ballot measure to legalize sports betting last fall, lawmakers introduced follow-up legislation in January that would lay out key regulatory and taxation details for retail sportsbooks in the historic gaming town of Deadwood, as well as Native American casinos. Status: The bill in South Dakota has been assigned to the Senate State Affairs Committee and could be discussed as early as this month. Look Ahead: Passing a retail sports betting bill seems like a safe bet in 2021. Online sports betting is the bigger question. Though gaming is only allowed in Deadwood, some mobile betting backers believe online wagering could be permitted statewide if the computer servers are physically within Deadwood limits. Though it would mean far larger revenue potential, it’s a logistically, politically and possibly legally more difficult endeavor, and the initial bill’s lack of mobile betting authorization indicates it may not even be considered in this year’s session. Massachusetts. Lawmakers discussed a handful of sports betting bills in 2020, including one sponsored by Gov. Charlie Baker, but elected officials couldn’t reach consensus despite bipartisan support. The General Court is set to take up wagering bills again in 2021, but some of the logistical hurdles remain. Status: Rep. Bradford Hill introduced a trio of mobile sports wagering bills last week, and more are set to follow in the Senate (and possibly the House). With the state’s year-long session just beginning, additional legislation to follow and more pressing budget concerns to consider, it could be a while before these specific proposals see much momentum. Look Ahead: Massachusetts, which has increasingly embraced gaming in recent years as competition for gambling dollars grows in other New England states, has frustrated the sports betting industry with its failure to advance legal wagering despite the latent political support. With statewide, legal wagering already in Rhode Island and New Hampshire (and likely in Connecticut) there’s more motivation than ever to pass a bill. Politicians still must work out operator access, college betting legality and a host of other issues they’ve struggled to reach consensus on in recent years. Other States. Several more are poised to introduce sports betting legislation in the coming weeks, while others with legal wagering already are working on growing their betting options. Legislation Pending: Maryland is all but guaranteed to take up fleshed-out legislation later this year after voters overwhelmingly backed a 2020 referendum that legalized sports betting. Texas, Minnesota and Arizona are among the next wave of states that could also see legal sports betting bills in 2021. Expanded Options: Officials in Oregon, Washington and Virginia have filed bills that would increase the number of legal sportsbooks in their respective states. Additional sports betting bills could face political obstacles, but it’s nevertheless a sign of political interest for expanded markets.

Notice this is significantly better than the fixed odds payout of 1 to win 150 on an 8 team parlay. In short, the trick of the trade when dealing with poor fixed odds is to simply add one team to the parlay that is priced differently than the standard -110. As you can now see, if you know how to bet parlays properly, they are not always sucker bets. There are, however, a few reasons that parlays are generally not a good move. I’ll cover these, and then cover the times it does make sense. Top Reasons to Avoid Parlays. 1) Progressive betting systems are generally regarded as poor strategy for both bankroll management and bankroll growth. Professional bettors make wagers based on their quantified edge per game. While the math can work out, doing the math for proper bet sizing on a parlay is a lot of added work with little to no upside for most sports bettors. 2) Parlay bets have higher variance than straight bets. Here you’re getting the same odds, but your chance of hitting a dry spell is greatly increased. When the odds are the same it is most often better to go with the lower variance option, which in this case is straight wagers. 3) Line Shopping – Sports bettors maximize their profit by always shopping for the best price. For example, finding -4 when other sites are -4.5, and finding reduced vig options such as -104 instead of -110. When betting parlays, you’ll need to find the most favorable odds for each team at a single betting site. The new year is finally here, and while that means football season is coming to a close, it’s also a reminder that NASCAR’s season-opening race, the Daytona 500 (Feb. 14 at 2:30 p.m. ET), is right around the corner. Daytona 500 odds are available at most sportsbooks, so it’s time to turn our attention toward motorsports and start building betting cards for NASCAR’s biggest race. With this in mind, here are three drivers I’m locking in right now for the Daytona 500. Daytona 500 Picks. *Odds as of Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. ET. In an event that can be very random, Hamlin has found a way to dominate the Great American Race in recent years. The Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) driver has won back-to-back 500s and three of the last five. That’s pretty good. And it’s not just Daytona that fits Denny’s superspeedway eye as of late, evidenced by finishes of fourth and first at Talladega last year as well. In fact, here were Hamlin’s finishes at the four superspeedway races last season: first, fourth, third and first, for an insane 2.3 average finish. I’m typically in very little rush to bet Daytona 500 favorites this early, but I can’t find any reason to wait on Hamlin at 8-1 odds right now. I just can’t quit you at superspeedways, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Stenhouse is the ultimate checkers-or-wreckers driver, a characteristic that often results in wadded-up race cars. Still, I’m not overly concerned about where he finishes because, as a bettor, if he ain’t first, he’s last. Ricky’s two Cup Series victories came at Talladega at Daytona (both in 2017), and he’s shown the speed to win there throughout this career, including last season after switching from Roush Fenway Racing to JTG-Daugherty Racing. Stenhouse won the pole and led the third-most laps in the 2020 Daytona 500, then followed it up with a runner-up at Talladega in June in which he crossed the finish line .007 seconds behind winner Ryan Blaney in a crazy finish. At 20-1, this is a worthy price to add one of the series’ top superspeedway drivers, especially one who will not settle for anything less than a win. Part of being a successful bettor is understanding your flaws, especially the ones that bleed profit throughout the season. My New Year’s NASCAR betting resolution is to stop taking so many longshots at superspeedway races, especially the Daytona 500. Sure, anything can happen in these races and that’s what can be seductive with longshot prices, but the deep sleepers rarely ever take the checkered flag. As a result, I’ll be looking more toward props for my favorite sleepers — follow me on Twitter (@PJWalsh24) for my Daytona 500 props — while avoiding them (hopefully) to win outright. With that said, I’m taking a shot, and a fairly big one, on Chris Buescher at 40-1 odds. Here are the top 10 drivers (sorted by driver rating at the four superspeedway races last season) and corresponding 2021 Daytona 500 betting odds via BetMGM. The list above includes the six drivers with the best odds to win the Daytona 500 and seven drivers at 16-1 or shorter. Kurt Busch, the 2017 winner is next at 20-1, leaving just Buescher (40-1) and Jones (66-1) as the outliers. For those wondering, Jones, who was around 28-1 to win this race last year, switched from powerhouse team JGR to Richard Petty Motorsports in the offseason, explaining the significant drop in price. That list alone illustrates why I’m willing to take a flier on Buescher, but looking at average finish makes this bet even more appetizing. Hamlin and Blaney were the only current Cup Series regulars who finished with better average finishes than Buescher at superspeedways in 2020. Who had the third-best average finish at superspeedways in 2020. With one championship and 58 race victories on his job summary, Kevin Harvick is likely on his way to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. A second championship would likely make him a first-ballot choice for the Hall’s voting committee. Harvick is coming off a season which he dominated in terms of race victories – he had a series-leading nine in 36 races. He also gathered 20 top-five finishes. During the regular season and then into the first rounds of the playoffs, Harvick appeared to be the favorite to win the championship. But a rare bad outing at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia in the penultimate round of the playoffs kept him out of the Championship 4. Little has changed for Harvick for 2021. He will be back driving a Ford for powerhouse Stewart-Haas Racing, he will still have Rodney Childress as his crew chief and you can be sure he will still have plenty of swagger on race weekends. About the only change for Harvick and the No. 4 car is that they will have a new teammate in young Chase Briscoe, who is taking the wheel of the No. 14 car that retired Clint Bowyer had been driving. Perhaps no other driver was affected as adversely by the Covid 19 pandemic and the changes it forced upon NASCAR as Kyle Busch. Busch, who won his second Cup championship in 2019 failed to win a race until the 34th race of the 2020 season. This for a guy who won 27 times between 2015 and 2019. What happened? The Cup season went on a pandemic-forced hiatus after four races in 2020. When the series did return to the tracks, they did so with a pandemic protocol that shortened the weekends and eliminated practice sessions. Busch is the type of driver who has used Friday and Saturday practices to improve his cars and get into a rhythm. On race days post hiatus, Busch and his team had trouble finding winning speed. 2021 will begin with many of the same protocols in place. It will also begin with Busch still in possession of what many around the sport think are the best racing skills in NASCAR. Busch has parted ways with long-time crew chief Adam Stevens, who is replaced by Ben Beshore on the Joe Gibbs Racing team. Young Chase Elliott was not only the surprise winner of the 2020 Cup Series championship, he was also the year’s top storyline. Elliott, 25, is the son of NASCAR legend Bill Elliott, aka Million Dollar Bill. Chase has a ways to go to post the numbers his father had but with the championship coming in just fifth full season in the series, he’s on his way. He won five races last year and had a career best 22 top-10 finishes. He won the final two races of the season. Elliott, who has taken over the role as the sport’s biggest fan favorite in the wake of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s retirement, has clearly found his footing. Elliott has been especially impressive on road course where he won twice a year ago. With three additional races on the twisties scheduled for 2021, Elliott could be in for a big year. Team Penske’s Keselowski won four races in 2020. Three of those came prior to the start of the 10-race playoffs. He also had 13 top-fives and nine of those came before the playoffs. The Michigan native survived a very shaky four-race stretch in the playoffs where his best finish was 13th, came on to log sixth-place or better finishes in the final four race and come home second in championship points. It was that kind of season for “Bad Brad”. He spent the first half of it wondering about his future as he was in the final year of his contract at the elite Penske team. However, one day after picking up a race win in New Hampshire in mid-summer he signed an extension. Keselowski’s lone championship came in 2012 but he has finished in the top-eight six times since then. Hamlin wears an unofficial title that has both positive and negative connotations connected with it – best active driver to have never won a Cup Series championship. There is little reason to think that he could not break free of that image this coming season. Hamlin has won 44 races. Three of those have been in the sport’s biggest event – the Daytona 500. Thirteen of his victories have come during the last two seasons when he won six times in 2019 and seven in 2020. He has drove his way into the season-ending Championship 4 the last two seasons. He is the two-time defending champion of he Daytona 500. So, at age 40, the native of Chesterfield, Va., is at the top of his game. His team owner, Joe Gibbs, must think so too as Hamlin was given a new multi-year contract on Feb. 1. Truex had an off year in 2020 as he won just one race and failed to advance to the Championship 4. Truex had won four, eight, four and seven races from 2016 to 2019. He was the 2017 Cup Series champion and finished as runner-up in 2018 and 2019. What happened? Well, there was a new crew chief as James Small took over for Cole Pearn on the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing car. But a better answer might be that nothing really bad happened. Truex remained one of the most consistent drivers in the series. He had 23 top-10 finishes, which was the third most in Cup. He had five second-place finishes and six third-place finishes on the year. In the Round of 8, he was dealt a 20-point penalty for a pre-race inspection violation at Texas. The final blow to his hopes for a berth in the Championship 4 came the following week at Martinsville when, while in contention for the win, he had to pit with a loose wheel 25 laps from the finish.

Miocic (20-3) dominated Ngannou (15-3) went they first went to war at UFC 220 roughly three years back, simply because “The Predator” — who built his career on early knockouts — had no answer for the champ’s wrestling-based attack. Cormier: Ngannou Knockouts Change Nothing. Since they last met, Miocic went 2-1 in a trilogy opposite Daniel Cormier. As for Ngannou, he stumbled against Derrick Lewis his next time out before rediscovering his decapitating ways, laying waste to four straight opponents by violent KO. If a $100 bettor wagered on every ‘Fight Goes the Distance’ prop this year, they would be up +$934 to start 2021. – Updated February 6th, 2021. UFC Betting Trends: Favorites vs Dogs. Big picture handicapping pays off, even in MMA. As sports bettors, we’ve come to lean on what the industry calls ‘situational handicapping.’ The home/road splits and the various ATS/ML trends that many of us have come to know and love. Some MMA bettors don’t realize that even though MMA combat is not a team sport, the same ideas of tracking trends and situational records can be just as valid in fighting predictions as it is on the field or on the court. Each division in the UFC has a set of tendencies that can be pointed out. While some of these tendencies are more explainable than others, the fact remains that they can be a valuable asset for MMA bettors when shopping for UFC odds, especially when the volume of events is as high as we’ve seen it as of late. UFC Betting Trends: Totals. UFC Trends Worth Tracking. Certain types of fights have a particular set of likely outcomes. Whether it be the over in women’s divisions, the underdog in welterweight, or the favorite in lightweight. Sometimes, it may be a more specific market trend, such as the ‘coin flip favorite’ (-150 to -101) at men’s flyweight. UFC Betting Trends: Coin Flip Fights. Since 2021 Record Win % Profit (Units) ‘Coin Flip’ Favorites 4-4 50% -0.82u ‘Coin Flip’ Dogs 4-4 50% -0.02u. The ‘coin flip’ favorite is a chalk favorite that is lined between -15o or better. The reason this is referred to as a ‘coin flip’ is that most of the time, these fights should be lined much closer to a pick’em, but the betting market has either pushed one fighter to become a ‘short favorite’ in that -150 to just short of pick’em range. Sometimes, you will even see the bookmakers set the odds for these kinds of bouts with one of the fighters being juiced a little bit higher than they should be, simply as a projection against the public pouring in on that fighter; since a better number on that fighter likely exists somewhere else. If one book originates a line with a little bit of juice on the favorite as protection, many other books will outright copy that line, which is why we see a ton of fights open at around pick’em, and then hover around that ‘coin flip’ range leading up to fight night. All in all, it is important to track which side ends up winning in these ‘coin flip’ scenarios, as it is a good way to predict how the betting market values a favorite or a dog in each division.

This rematch signifies McGregor’s return to the lightweight division, a class where his last victory came in 2016’s Title win over Eddie Alvarez, a belt he would lose two years later after being submitted by current belt holder Khabib Nurmagomedov. While McGregor blossomed into the UFC’s biggest pull, Porier rebounded from the 2014 loss and has quietly strung together an impressive of victories himself. Conor’s inactivity seems to hold little weight in the mind of oddsmakers, with McGregor lined as a heavy -325 favorite (bet $325 to win $100), and given that 19 of his 24 total professional fights have ended in KO victories, a similar result here is favored at -200. McGregor’s fists tend to do the talking, with only one submission victor to his name, and all four of his defeats have come the way of submission. Where Conor is often viewed as an aggressive fighter, Poirier actually outpaces his opponent slightly when comparing significant strikes per minute stats. With Conor relying heavily on timing to set up his infamous left hand, Poirier will look to disrupt the fight’s rhythm by dictating both its pace and controlling the distance between the two. In doing so, it's safe to expect Poirier to rely on his advancing approach where he looks to walk into his opponents, forcing them to remain on their heels and keeping him inside of the distance. Here, McGregor’s left hand is somewhat limited and his leg kicks will not deliver the same impact. We have seen fighters suffer from cage rust following extended absences from the ring, yet McGregor has proven time and time again that his breaks from fighting often see him return rested and focused. The UFC needs a name to sell tickets, and where this matchup is no cakewalk for the ‘Notorious’ the oddsmakers look to have this thing right in backing a McGregor KO victory.
